I am a US senior master and FIDE master living in the Boston, MA area. I was one of the top scholastic players in the U.S. in the 90s, ranked number 2 in the U.S. in my age group most years. Later I played on board 1 for my college and grad school teams in intercollegiate and open team tournaments. After mostly taking a hiatus from serious chess for a number of years, I have resumed chess competition, writing, and teaching since the start of 2016. I have now raised my rating to the highest it has ever been, 2456, and am seeking IM norms.

I have co-authored three articles published in Chess Life: Sept 2017 (cover story), Sept 2019, and April 2020 (cover story). The Sept 2017 article on chess in Cuba won the 2018 Chess Journalists of America award for Best Story of the Year.

I had a recurring column in Chess Horizons magazine: http://www.masschess.org/chess_horizons/chess-horizons-archives.aspx (starting with the spring 2016 issue).

I currently have opening for new students. I have taught chess players of all ages and skill levels. My teaching philosophy combines classic principles of the famous Soviet chess school with modern elements of the game. Besides teaching technical aspects of the game, I aim to teach the student to think optimally, both when playing and in analysis. See my chess.com article for an example of this:

If interested in lessons, please send me a private message to discuss further.

I am also potentially interested in paid writing gigs or collaborations (one-off or recurring).
